51 scholarship applications were received this year for the ten $3,000 awards.  The applications are being judged and the winners will be contacted late in August.

The Josie Gould Scholarship was established in 2002 when Sister Gould retired from the public service and active union work.  She was awarded a lifetime union membership that year to recognize her long standing union involvement dating back to 1970.

Sister Gould also spent a great deal of time and effort supporting and encouraging healthy activity for northern youths.

Sister Gould passed away in 2008 and the scholarship was renamed the Josie Gould Memorial Scholarship.

When this year’s winners receive their scholarship awards, the fund will have given out $270,000 to help northern students pursue higher education.

Winners of the 10 awards for 2010 will be announced early in September.

Final Equal Pay Payments!

The deadline of November 30, 2009 for the Equal Pay Payment submissions has passed.

The Department of Human Resources is anticipating to have the final Equal Pay payments issued towards the end of March beginning of April for UNW service and a month after that for excluded service.

Unfortunately, the process is taking longer than originally anticipated which has resulted in a month’s delay in issuing the final payments.
