RECEPTIONIST/ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Location: Yellowknife
Term: Casual (up to 4 months)

Duties: Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration, the incumbent provides reception, clerical, and general administrative support services including typing, photocopying, drafting correspondence and proofreading material and documents. Additionally, the position is responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies for the office, maintains office equipment and contacts repair personnel as needed. Support services for meetings, conferences and conventions include booking travel for members, arranging meeting rooms and working with event coordinators to provide required resources. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the administrative support team and be cross trained to provide relief coverage.

Qualifications: Grade 12 graduation and completion of an Office Administration Certificate programme; or two to three years related experience in an office operating typical office equipment and programmes; or equivalent combination of training and experience in office management.

Salary Range as of April 1, 2024: $58,087.82

HUMAN RIGHTS / ACCOMMODATION OFFICER

Location: Yellowknife
Term: Indeterminate

Duties: Reporting to the Director of Membership Services the incumbent provides representation for members in the areas of accommodation and human rights by providing expertise and advice, researching, investigating and processing grievances, including attending grievance hearings with employers, researching precedents, interviewing potential witnesses, and preparing and presenting case summaries for referral to arbitration; assists bargaining units with formalizing proposals for bargaining; representing members at competition and/or job evaluation appeal hearings, researches, analyses, and evaluates information on human rights related matters for use in the negotiation and union/management consultation processes. Facilitating and coordinating training with members.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training in the field of labour relations particularly related to accommodations, human rights, occupational Health and safety, negotiations, grievances, mediation and alternate dispute resolution forums; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Mature judgment with a strong background of experience in advocacy, leadership, research, and negotiations; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal diplomatically and persuasively with Employers and Union members; willingness to work irregular hours and travel throughout the Northwest Territories; requires computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, databases and spreadsheets). A criminal records check may be required.

Salary Range: $126,572.69 - $142,856.44

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - LEGAL AND MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

Duties: Reporting to the Director of Membership Services the incumbent provides representation for members in assigned areas by providing expertise and advice, researching, investigating and processing grievances, including attending grievance hearings with employers, researching precedents, interviewing potential witnesses, and preparing and presenting case summaries for referral to arbitration; representing the UNW and/or members before various boards and arbitrators; providing advice and guidance and assistance in the preparation and presentation of grievances; analyzing cases unresolved at the final level to prepare for arbitration; negotiating grievance settlements; reviewing arbitration decisions; writing legal opinions; acts as negotiator and advisor for UNW on Employer matters including: acting as negotiation and advisor in USW collective bargaining; provides advice on internal labour relations matters; represents UNW in arbitrations, mediations and other dispute resolution processes.

Qualifications: Law Degree from College or University and has been called to the bar and maintains good standing, 3 years labour relations experience; or 10 years related experience and/or training in the field of labor relations including negotiations, grievances, mediation, arbitrations and alternate dispute resolution forums; Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Mature judgment with a strong background of experience in advocacy, leadership, research, and negotiations; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal diplomatically and persuasively with Employers and Union members; willingness to work irregular hours and travel throughout the Northwest Territories; requires computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, databases and spreadsheets). A criminal records check may be required.

Salary Range: $137,455.50 - $164,190.00 (expired salary)
